Hot Tools Hair Care

Hot tools such as straighteners, curling irons and deep wavers are a great way to elevate your hair styles. There are a couple steps you can take to help protect your hair before using these tools. The first and most important step is to make sure your hair is 100% dry. Often times clients will complain about their curling irons or straighteners leaving dents in the hair, this is almost always caused by the hair still being damp.

Heat Protectant is another staple for heat styling your hair. A heat protectant creates a barrier between your hair and the hot tool to fend against the high temperatures. It also acts as a smoothing agent for your hairs cuticle to help eliminate frizz.

Turn down that heat! Most hot tools can have a setting as high as 400 degrees. this doesn't mean we need to set it there. If you instinctively always have your hot tool on the highest setting its time to dial it down. Lowering the heat and taking smaller sections of hair at a time to be styled can often dramatically reduce the amount of damage to your hair.

Mask, mask, mask! Hair masks are the holy grail to helping the damage that is done with hot tools. I always recommend to my clients using a hair mask at least once per week. Over time our hair can lose its luster making it look dull and lifeless. A good, reparative hair mask will help bring your hair back to life so you can get back your shine and bounce! Hair masks are an absolute MUST for anyone who who has any coloring or lightening done to their hair.
